Creating Architectural Legacies

Like the master builders of the previous century who believed design excellence and the best construction practices are inseparable, we are a multidisciplinary firm that offers our clients a full range of design and construction services, including distinctive interior design, custom millwork and cabinet-making, and ongoing property maintenance.

Our roots are in New England and are evident in the respect we show for classic American architecture and the rustic, moody landscape of the region. We honor the simple restraint of a first-period saltbox house as much as the elegant lines of an 18th-century farmhouse or a custom shingle-style home on the coast. Whether designed from scratch or reinterpreted, our homes perform to the highest contemporary standards. We pay careful attention to natural surroundings, using the materials, composition, and features that best reflect every property’s unique beauty.

We’ll help you create your best home and a future architectural legacy for your family to enjoy for generations.

In Memoriam

In 1996, Terry Carpenter joined forces with architect Robert MacNeille to establish the design-build firm Carpenter & MacNeille Architects and Builders, Inc. with the goal of combining architectural and interior design with fine home building under one entity. Later, the partners would add custom cabinetry and millwork to this roster with the establishment of Stephen Terhune Woodworking, Inc. The firm continues its growth thanks in large part to the bedrock values and standards Terry embodied. We remember him fondly as an outdoor enthusiast with a passion for excellence whether it be in kayaking, skiing, fly fishing, hiking, photography, or fine craftsmanship. He had a love for animals and a wonderful sense of humor that affected all who knew him. His life is a testament to the enduring power of leadership and guidance.
