Applegate

This late 19th century carriage house, sited on a bucolic country road dotted with large horse farms, needed a comprehensive update. The renovation provides a more modern, family-friendly interior layout, transforming a somewhat compartmentalized floor plan into light-filled spaces more conducive to contemporary living and entertaining.

A newly opened wall and reconfigured staircase off the main foyer now greets guests, offering direct access from the front entry to the updated kitchen wing. The redesigned kitchen, built around an AGA range and charming scullery bay, features expansive soapstone counters, a large format stone floor, C&M custom cabinetry and a handsome walnut island. Next to the stairs, a large oak bar provides ample gathering space for family entertaining.

Adjacent to the kitchen and dining area, a reimagined screen porched wing, built in a post and beam style with fixed screens and a new brick floor, connects to the outside for easy indoor-outdoor living throughout the summer and shoulder seasons.

Additional updates include a new laundry hall and guest bedroom suite, a charming bar “folly” in the living room, and a new mudroom entry and portico designed in keeping with the home’s historic vernacular.
