Bellwether Interiors
Nestled in the rocks overlooking Good Harbor Beach, this charming stone and slate structure was built in the early 1900s as a carriage house serving a large nearby estate. It was converted to a summer cottage years ago, and most recently, a plan was devised to reimagine and expand the residence while simultaneously retaining its historic spirit. While the exterior was built largely with rugged natural materials like stone, slate, and cedar, the goal for the interiors was to infuse a clean, contemporary aesthetic. In total,1,200 square feet were added including a new stone and oak entry, a two-story clerestory library, guest suite, kitchen, bar, and elevated dining room. The kitchen, a primary focal point of the house, is designed with C&M custom rift cut white oak cabinetry, full overlay style, to highlight the dramatic ceiling heights and reflect the client’s contemporary, Scandinavian taste. A new two-story opening with a dramatic custom-made bubble glass light fixture highlights the space up to the library, creating an expansive light-filled experience.
The program also includes a shingled outbuilding which houses an ocean-facing private studio with floor to ceiling windows on one side, and sleek, modern sauna in the rear.
