The Cove
The Cove is a bespoke residence, re-imagined to provide comfortable, modern living spaces while also embracing the architectural and historical significance of the site. The original structure built by Peabody & Stearns in 1915, was part of a large, oceanfront estate overlooking Patch Beach in Beverly, Massachusetts. Designed to house carriages, horses and eventually autos – one could actually drive through the original building. A conversion in the 1980’s to a residence had decreased the size of the structure, but did little to pay homage to the iconic craftsmanship and style employed by the Gilded Age masters. In 2009, the project was launched to both expand the residence as well as restore the level of workmanship that would best uphold the legacy of site. Elaborate original millwork and detailing were restored and reproduced so that the new house was authentic and consistent throughout. The project received the ICAA Bulfinch Award for Residential Restoration in 2013.
